Wines without added sulfites:

A commitment that goes beyond organic.

Reducing the levels of sulfites in our wines was not just a choice, but a true production ideal based on our desire to guarantee the customer a truly genuine and authentic product.
A not always easy path, full of challenges, that we have been pursuing for more than 40 years, which has led us today to have a line composed of four wines without added sulfites and to limit, in the rest of production, the use of sulfites to the minimum possible. For us, this achievement is not a point of arrival but the engine that drives us to improve.

But what are sulfites

And why are they used in wines?

Sulfites are chemicals used as preservatives to prevent oxidation and spoilage in wines. However, they are allergenic substances to which care must be taken as they can cause health problems in sensitive individuals and, at high dosages, even alter the taste of wine. They are also allowed in organic wines at lower levels than in conventional. However, it is very difficult for a consumer to actually understand how much sulfites are present in a bottle of wine considering that only the words “contains sulfites” will be found on the label.

The maximum allowed amounts vary depending on the type of wine: Organic red wines can contain up to 100 mg/l of sulfites (150 mg/l in conventional), white and rosé wines up to 150 mg/l (200mg/l in conventional).

A wine is by law considered sulfite-free if the content of naturally occurring sulfites in the wine remains below 10 mg/l.

Our commitment is not limited to the types we offer without added sulfites but is an ongoing effort with the goal of reducing the use of sulfites in all our production. In fact, in the wines where we add any, we do not exceed 30 mg/l.
